Getting to the Isles of Scilly

However you get here, you'll have an exciting journey. Flights take around 20 minutes from Land's End airport or the ferry is a leisurely 2 and 3/4 hours from Penzance.

Whatever your mode of transport, keep an eye out for whales, dolphins and plenty of seabirds! You may spot them out of the window of the Skybus or from the deck of the Scillonian when travelling with Isles of Scilly Travel or whilst feeling like a celebrity with Penzance Helicopters.

2024 could see the maiden Scilly voyage of the Atlantic Wolff fast ferry too!

Getting around

There is so much to see and do here on Scilly. We have fantastic scenery, ancient monuments, internationally important wildlife and incredible places to eat, and that's just St Mary's for starters! If you fancy giving your feet a bit of a break whilst you explore, there are a number of transport options on our most populated island.

First off Island Transfers will pick you up from the airport, or if you arrive by ferry you can opt for either the Island Carriers or Richard Hand Haulage to deliver your luggage to us with a note on your luggage labels.

You may wish to hire a Scilly Golf Cart to make the most of your time. For those with mobility issues,  scooters are available from St Mary's Bike Hire, who of course have bikes on offer too. There is even a seasonal Community Bus to enjoy!

St Mary's Boatmen's Association operate seven days a week from the quay for all your island hopping needs, and we have two taxi firms - DJ Cabs and Toots Taxi.

Maps are available from Porthloo House, or from Mumford's Newsagent, Hugh Town, and the Tourist Information Centre, Porthcressa Beach.

See the wonders of the Isles

Scilly is renowned for its impressive variety of wildlife, whether in the air, sea or on land. You can learn more on the IoS Wildlife Trust website.

Whether you want to explore the nature reserve behind Porthloo House, search for dolphins on a seafari, snorkel with seals or ride a horse along the beach, there is always something for everyone.

If you want to kayak or stand up paddle board, there's water sport and boat hire but if you prefer your boat tours to be lengthy and far out at sea, you'll enjoy our thriving sea bird community with pelagic boat trips.

Perhaps you'd rather stay dry and do a guided walk or if your feet are getting sore, take a guided tour on the Island Rover instead.

Of course you could just enjoy the gentle Scillonian pace on a pristine beach in the glorious sunshine.

Eating Out

Whether you're after hearty food in homely pubs by the sea, are partial to fine dining, or just love a traditional Cornish pasty or cream tea, you'll be spoilt for choice. You'll find somewhere to eat every meal of the day, if you so wish.

All of our eateries are very popular and can book up quickly. Please make reservations, particularly for evening meals, long before arriving to avoid disappointment.

Visit Isles of Scilly has an extensive list of Scilly's fabulous food offerings for you to feast your eyes on.
